A message from Lee
From the time I was a kid, this is all I ever wanted to do.
At a career day festival in 1978, when I was 13, someone asked what I wanted to be when I grew up. I said, without blinking: “I want to make movies.” About two years later, at 15, I went to a midnight screening of Tommy—the Ken Russell film with The Who and that wild parade of cameos. I’m not totally sure how high I was in 1980, but it left its mark. That’s when I understood what a cameo-driven, vignette-style rock opera could be: someone walks in for one song, tells a complete story in a few minutes, and vanishes—but their moment sticks in your head.
Then I learned what actually goes into making a film… and I went into TV instead, building a successful career with shows like Party Heat (truTV). In 2009, on location at Lake Havasu, The Havasu Times asked me how a small company competes with the big boys in television. My answer was simple:
“There are two kinds of painters—
the one who paints the Sistine Chapel,
and the one who paints a bathroom.
I paint the best bathroom.”
With The Impossible Dream, I finally got to aim a little higher. Like Leonardo, he painted the chapel—this time, I painted the chapel bathroom with pride.
It’s a cameo-driven, vignette-style rock opera built from that original Tommy spark, powered by today’s AI tools, and anchored in music and story the old-fashioned way.
